Sheffield Carers

Adult Carers

Often, your first contact with the Sheffield Carers Centre will be through our Carers Advice Line. The service is staffed by trained professionals who understand the pressures of caring and can help you with any aspect of your caring role. They can give you lots of the information you need as a carer, for example about:

  • understanding how the social care system works
  • your rights as a carer
  • respite services, and taking a break from caring
  • break from caring
  • benefits and financial matters
  • and lots more!

You can also contact the service just to talk about your caring role - we will give you a sympathetic listening ear.

To contact the service:

Please call, Tel: 0114 272 8362
9am - 6pm any weekday (there is an answerphone service outside these hours)

We will likely need to ask you for some details of your caring situation, but the service is completely confidential.

The person you speak to will also ask if we can add you to our Carers Register (if you are not already on it) so that you will receive our regular Newsletters and other relevant information.

Sheffield Young Carers

The Sheffield Young Carers (SYC) is a registered charity which has been running since 1997.

We offer support to children and young people aged 8-25 who live in Sheffield and provide care for one or more family members who have disabilities, long-term physical illnesses, mental health difficulties and/or a problem with drugs or alcohol. They may be providing physical, personal, financial and/or emotional care.

These children and young people are known as 'young carers' and we support them by offering one-to-one support, group activities, respite holidays and support with education, employment and training.

We also work with organisations across the city to make sure that additional support is available to young carers.

If you would like to refer a young carer to our service, please talk to them about Sheffield Young Carers and the services we provide. With the young carer and their parent or guardian's permission, you can then refer them to our service.
